Glamorous, modern and a place that you have to visit at least once in a lifetime. Dubai is a miracle of architecture, a vertical city that has flourished in the desert and one of the best destinations to enjoy the sun all year. Souvenirs and traditional markets, the largest shopping centers, theme parks ... From the desert to the sea, and from shopping to skiing, Dubai offers everything that modern cities can only dream of.
The tallest building in the world, by far. You will not find anything more majestic. Burj Khalifa is 828 meters high spread over 124 floors, so you will have to climb to the top to enjoy the breathtaking views ... Only this makes it worth the trip to Dubai. The tour lasts one hour and allows you to go up and down ... besides taking as many photos as you want from this postcard horizon. It will be difficult to put your feet back on the ground! The best time to go is at sunset ... because you can see the panorama day and night.
After the tallest building in the world, there is nothing better than the contrast of climbing an open door in Dubai Creek. This stream is one of the oldest and most beautiful areas of Dubai. Nothing better than the sensation of sailing in one of these traditional boats while the sun sets for only 1 dirham, while in the background the call to the evening prayer sounds from the minarets of the mosques. Close your eyes and you will travel to the 1960s when this dream began. You can even hire a private room for € 12 an hour.
On the other shore, you will find the aromas of the Dubai Spice Souk. It is the perfect place to buy some incense, then take a walk through the charming old town of Deira, with its alleys and street cats.
Center for Cultural Understanding Sheikh Mohammed
A perfect place to have breakfast or lunch, with a differential point. If you have always wanted to know more about Islam but did not dare to ask, here is your chance to know everything. Do you want to know why women wear an abaya? How long can the camels survive in the desert? Why do Muslims turn to a specific direction to pray? In the Sheik Mohammed Center for Cultural Understanding, you will find all the answers. So do not be surprised if you go back home with a lot more information and a closer view of the Muslim world.
The center is managed by a man from the Emirates who married a European woman and is a good place to foster intercultural understanding, as the name suggests. Have we already said that it is a good place to eat? As well as filling the stomach, dare to ask if you can climb the roof to admire the views. It will give you goose bumps.
Burj Al Arab
The Burj Al Arab calls itself " The only 7-star hotel in the world" and, whether you agree or not, it is undoubtedly one of the most iconic buildings in Dubai. With a height that rises to 321 meters, the Burj was designed to look like a sail swollen by the wind. There are several places from which you can take amazing photos, but one of the best is the public beach that is right next door. It is one of the most photographed buildings in the world and one of the most luxurious hotels as well. It's too expensive to stay here, but here's a tip: go and have a drink at the Dhow and Anchor at the hotel directly opposite (Jumeirah Beach)and sit on the terrace to enjoy the views.
Ski Dubai - Mall of the Emirates
Snow in the dunes of the desert? In Dubai it is possible! And all this in one of the largest shopping centers in the world. Among the many crazy things you can do in this city, you are snowboarding at Ski Dubai, in the shopping center Mall of the Emirates. More than 20,000 square meters of indoor ski slopes, with chairlift included, and an unseasonable winter climate in this part of the world. Here you can glide along the slopes, play with the snow or simply have a hot chocolate at the bar. You will not need to bring your skis, here you can rent everything.
These are just a handful of interesting things you can do in Dubai. With it firmly on my bucket list, these are activities I will most definitely do and recommend it strongly to everyone I know. If you want to learn more about Dubai, check out this website: Visit Dubai.
